From April 3rd to 5th, 2026, Lagos became a hub of innovation and learning as Impact Space Inc. rolled out its I AM AI READY program, equipping over 1,700 young people with essential Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital skills. At a time when global demand for tech competencies is rapidly increasing, this initiative addresses the reality that many African youth still lack access to structured digital training. Programs like this are helping to change that narrative.
Hosted at The Golden Heart Place along the Lekki–Ajah Expressway, the three-day workshop brought together a vibrant community of young learners eager to explore the world of AI. Delivered in partnership with the Generation Next Project during the GenNext Teens and Youth Camp Meeting Lagos, the event successfully combined scale with meaningful engagement.
The workshop unfolded in three impactful phases. Day one focused on awareness and onboarding, with volunteers actively engaging participants through outreach activities that led to immediate sign-ups. Day two delivered the core learning experience, blending expert-led sessions with hands-on activities that allowed participants to explore AI tools and enroll in courses in real time—supported by free WiFi for accessibility. By the final day, participants reflected on their learning journey, shared feedback, and received certificates marking their entry into the world of AI.
Beyond the impressive turnout, the numbers tell a deeper story of engagement and transformation. Over 1,600 participants attended in person and over 100 enrolled online to complete the micro-courses. For many, this was their first encounter with AI—an experience that shifted perceptions from uncertainty to possibility.
Participants feedback highlighted this transformation. Some spoke about learning how to protect their digital work and avoid scams, while others expressed newfound confidence in creating content and even teaching others. What once seemed complex and distant became practical and accessible.

Behind the scenes, a dedicated team of volunteers played a critical role in ensuring the program’s success. Their efforts in mobilization, facilitation, and on-the-ground support demonstrated the power of community-driven impact.
Like any large-scale initiative, the program also revealed important lessons. Limited access to smartphones among some participants affected full participation, and gaps in volunteer availability highlighted the need for stronger coordination. These insights are already shaping plans for future improvements.
Looking ahead, Impact Space is building on this momentum by supporting participants to complete their courses, expanding partnerships with schools and youth organizations, and strengthening its volunteer network for even greater reach and impact.
The Lagos edition of I AM AI READY sends a clear message: when young people are given the right tools, exposure, and support, they are not just prepared for the future—they are ready to shape it.
