Harare, Zimbabwe – On Friday, 1 August 2025, Impact Space Inc. conducted a heartwarming Mini Care Drive to Mashambanzou Care Home in Mbare, Harare, bringing essential supplies, emotional support, and meaningful engagement with the children and staff at the home.
The visit took place at 15 Mlambo Street, one of two houses run by the care home under the oversight of the Department of Social Services of Zimbabwe. The Programs Manager, Ms. Mercy Muirimi, welcomed the team and provided a briefing on the home’s operations and the challenges they face in supporting vulnerable children.
At the time of the visit, four children were present, three girls (aged 10, 14, and 15) and one boy (aged 16). A fifth child, aged 19, was away completing a carpentry attachment as part of skills development. The volunteers were welcomed by two care home mothers and had warm, personal conversations with both the staff and the children.
The children shared their dreams: the 10-year-old aspires to become a doctor, the 14- and 15-year-old sisters hope to become a pilot and a lawyer respectively, while the 16-year-old boy aims to pursue computer engineering. Their ambition and positivity, despite their circumstances, left a lasting impact on the team. In line with government privacy policies, the team respected the confidentiality rules and refrained from taking and posting identifiable images of the children on social media. Instead, the focus was on building relationships, listening, and providing support where it matters most.
The team shared cake, enjoyed traditional food with the children, and handed over a generous donation package including groceries, clothing, toiletries, stationery, and a cash gift. The Programs Manager expressed deep gratitude for the support and committed to sending a formal letter of acknowledgment. She also appreciated the growing partnership with Impact Space Inc.
Team Leader – Ms. Rumbidzai Chemhere
Our visit to Mashambanzou Care Home was a quiet yet deeply impactful experience. Unlike other care drives with larger numbers of younger children, this home had a smaller group of older children, each with powerful dreams and great potential. I was reminded that support must go beyond food and clothing, these children also need school fees assistance, mentorship, and access to skills training to give them lasting hope and independence. I am proud of our team. I am especially grateful to Director I. Nyarko, our founder, for the opportunity to reach out and serve. Her leadership and vision continue to guide and inspire us in our mission to impact lives through love and care. Everyone showed compassion, respect, and dedication. We left with full hearts and a stronger desire to serve. This is just the beginning of a meaningful relationship.
