A Day of Hope: Impact Care Drive Kicks Off the New Year in Calabar, Nigeria

On January 17, 2025, the Impact Space Cross River Team launched the Impact Care Drive, an inspiring initiative to support children with special needs and street kids in Calabar, Nigeria. Held at the Special Education Center Secondary School, the event brought hope, encouragement, and essential resources to over 50 students with special needs and provided meals for 30 street kids in the community.

This impactful event was designed to address both educational and immediate survival needs, making a meaningful difference in the lives of some of the most vulnerable members of the community.

Empowering Kids with Special Needs

The day began with a warm welcome from the school principal, who set the tone for an atmosphere of compassion and encouragement. The students, who are blind, autistic, or living with other special needs, received tailored support and motivation to overcome challenges and embrace their education.

Key Activities for Students with Special Needs:

  • Inspiring Talks: Volunteers delivered motivational messages aimed at helping students recognize their potential and embrace their unique strengths.
  • Personal Hygiene Education: Students learned essential tips for maintaining hygiene, promoting their health and well-being.
  • Customized Exercise Books: Each student received special exercise books designed not only to aid learning but also to inspire them with motivational messages on every page.
  • Engaging Performances: The students showcased their talents through songs and presentations, demonstrating their resilience and joy.

The students expressed their excitement and gratitude through heartfelt smiles, laughter, and memorable moments of connection with volunteers.

Feeding Street Kids: Addressing Immediate Needs

As part of the Care Drive, the team also reached out to street kids in the Calabar community, many of whom face hunger on a daily basis due to economic challenges. Volunteers distributed nutritious meals and drinks to 30 street kids, offering a reprieve from hunger and an opportunity to connect with the larger community.

This part of the initiative reinforced Impact Space’s commitment to addressing both short-term and long-term challenges faced by underserved communities.

Highlighting Community Support

The success of the Care Drive was made possible through the efforts of 15 passionate volunteers, local stakeholders, and the Impact Space team. Their collective dedication ensured that every child felt seen, supported, and empowered.
